Wealth is a blessing and a curse. The Lord blesses His people with a certain amount of wealth to establish His covenant.
The curse becomes more evident as you read Deuteronomy chapter eight and Romans one together. It also becomes clear that there is a powerful consequence to forgetting that life and wealth come from the Lord and that we see that play out in the USA in real-time.
Many Americans feel guilt over their wealth and buy into destructive anti-God ideologies such as Socialism and Critical Race Theory, but I repeat myself.
Forgetting God also leads to sexual immorality and worship of creation, including earth worship and empty spiritualism. When we ignore the Lord, we also forget Him as Creator but also as Sustainer, which leads, in turn, to fear of a changing climate.
The worst part of the curse is terrible thinking. When we forget the Lord, we lose our foundation. We fail to realize that the scripture, from the ten commandments to the words of Jesus, provides the truth needed to bring about human prosperity.
From liberty itself to law and order and even good business practices, the bible gives the framework for wealth creation.
Deuteronomy eight gives a simple but effective solution to remembering the Lord in our thinking, giving thanks when we are full and satisfied.
“When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land which He has given you.” Deuteronomy 8:10
It is at the root of the dark thinking of Romans one; just look at verse 21. When we eat to the point of being full, we are rich, which is when we should bless the Lord.
We should also recognize that if we feel bad for having whatever wealth we possess, we have the same option as the rich young ruler Jesus spoke with; we can give our wealth to the poor. No government intervention is required.
